A storied veteran got back to the course this weekend. I'll end the suspense here. It was me! A few weeks back my brother in law John wanted to gather to put our regular Farley Open group together of Jarett, Chuck, John and myself. I was excited for it. My last vaccination was Thursday so I was ready to go.
I started my Saturday at the range with two large buckets. Worked through my irons. Still can't hit my 5 or 6, but I hit enough passable shots. Driver and three wood were working. John set this up for Springfield Country Club. After Softball photos and a scrimmage I cut out early to head to golf. Springfield CC is nice, there was an outdoor patio and a wedding going on. Of course, as soon as we arrived there was a fast moving cold front that moved through and the winds were extremely high for the first couple of holes.
Our decided format was a 2 man scramble which was good for me to ease back into things. John & Chuck went full Farley Open from the start with a double captain and coke and a corona pounder. Jarett and I won the first 4 holes and laughed in their faces the rest of the way. We even provided a free drop when there was a lost ball because we are not douches and the outcome was never really in doubt. Posted for your review is all the shade that was thrown our way with little or no retort. Jarett and I let our clubs do the talking.
Chuck supposedly is a very good golfer. We have yet to verify same. As always, we are on his side but until such game manifests, he should refrain from writing checks his game cannot cash. I bet him, with 5:1 odds, that he would not finish the Farley Open in the top ten. And another 5:1 bet that he would not finish all 54 sanctioned holes. It is looking very much like I will defray $150 in Farley Open cost by taking his action... and his soul.
